Grassland Management

Grassland Management
At present, all of our grass in permanent pasture – that is to say that it does not get ploughed up, and therefore is not part of the arable rotation. Over recent years, we have been following a programme of pasture rejuvenation, and including clover (which ‘fixes’ atmospheric nitrogen) within the seed mixtures, so as to reduce our reliance on artificial fertiliser, thus saving cost as well as being better for the environment, and the livestock prefer it too! Part of the management of the grassland is to set stock animals during the summer months, in small management groups, further reducing stress. During the winter months, all we offer cattle housing on a “Bed & Breakfast” basis in open plan straw bedded ‘courts’.
